Steamboy is the most expensive anime ever to be produced? It took 26 million dollars to finish it. The anime film aired in 2004, was  directed by Katsuhiro Otomo (the creator of Akira – both the anime and the manga) and produced by Sunrise. Steamboy was in production for more than 10 years.
