Anime: The Lost Manhood

25 October 2009 by Andrei 6 Comments

It is kind of weird that in the present an art form known for its violence doesn’t inspire too much manhood. I mean, I can still remember a period when manhood was very good represented in anime. All those great anime like Fist of The North Star, Berserk, Dragon Ball, Lupin, Bastard, only to mention some, they were full of brag, violence and manhood. Yes, the 90’s spawned a bunch of crap too, mostly hentai, but hentai has manhood too haha. While  at present, although I cannot whine about the violence in anime (that is still present), its about the manhood that I care. Really, almost any new anime out there has an unbelievable amount of kiddie/MOE/effeminate elements in it. IS like, DUDE! THEY ARE STEALING THE MANHOOD FROM US! All those male heroes that look like females, with thin bodies, weird haircuts, emancipated gestures and spooky sexual habits… are those the fantasies of their creators? By creating more and more complicated plots or characters, did the creators forgot their manhood? Japan, be a MAN, dude!

Which was the last anime that made you feel like you want to be THAT hero, because of the manhood and the awe that he was emanating and inspiring?

I can say Heroic Age for my part. In Heroic Age, the hero, although a kid, he was more manly than any of the characters from that anime. Age (the boy’s name) can transform in Bellcross, a HUGE creature (way bigger than Godzilla or Gundam) half organic/half robot that saves the future of the human race. And he dies at the end, sacrificing itself without any seconds thoughts. MANLY!

Lets go back in time a little more and talk about other character, which scores even more on manhood. Guts, from the anime Berserk. Guts is a man and he has no special powers. What he has is stubbornness, ego, physical strength, a HUGE sword and MANHOOD. A true man, with hair on its chest, unshaved, sweaty, caring a sword called The Dragon SLayer and a big chunk  of misogynism. All inspiring. The guy sacrifices an eye and an arm for the woman he loves. And what about when he slaughters 100 soldiers by his own, you know what I’m talking about. I’m not talking only about violence here, I’m talking about how manly the violence is. Sure, a MOE character can be violent too, but it will look lame. Hit your brother with that candy! OUCH!

A anime that I enjoy a LOT, but none of the characters inspired too much manhood awe, is Gundam 00. Probably because the heroes in there had too many psychological problems.

Give us back our manhood, anime creators, and give us true men heroes in which we can believe again. I wont take showers, shave or talk to my wife for one day to celebrate the man in me. Ok, I don’t know about that last part.

Unfortunately, Shin Mazinger is just not my type of anime. Or it wasn’t at the moment when I watched some episodes. And I totally forgot about it. I’ll give it another chance, np. And Hajime no Ippo its now on my list of must watch, thanks Karry. Box is a manly sport, hehe.
