When I read the first Hellboy, some years ago, I was a little baffled. I didn’t knew what to think about this book. Was this a super-hero comic-book? A horror one? And what is with this style of drawing things? Pencils, inks, color… all were so unusual. Never seen before. It amazed me and I become a Hellboy fan. Which is very easy to become.
The first appearances of Hellboy are in two short stories that were created to promote the incoming Seed of Destruction. They were included in…

Welcome to the first ‘’normal’’ issue of Conan the Cimmerian, the ongoing Conan series from Dark Horse comics. If the special number zero was just an introduction, things start to get on their way in this first issue. We get the first glimpses of the story and we can see both the art of Tomas Giorello and Richard Corben.
This number one issue that I have has a variant cover by Joe Kubert, and is currently unavailable at tfaw.com, but you can buy the one…

And here I am, back with the third Conan omnibus from Dark Horse, The Savage Sword of Conan volume three. Wait, where is volume 2? Well, I didn’t bought that yet, due to… unavailability. But I checked tfaw.com, and its available now, so I guess ill order it with the next shipment. So, I bought my copy from tfaw, it is a nick & dent book (I only buy nick & dents when the book is very thick, I don’t dare do this with thinner books or regular comics) which I purchased with $7.98…

Before I proceed to the actual comic-book, lets dig a little into comics history. In 2003, when Dark Horse took over the Conan franchise from Marvel, they inaugurated a new line of comics named simply… Conan. For 50 issues, Conan has been a thief, robber, mercenary and all you can name it. And it did great for Dark Horse, who received lots of praises for reviving Conan. But 50 issues are a lot and the team at Dark Horse decided that Conan is in need of some fresh adventures, far …

For all you Conan true fans, Dark Horse has something special installed for you. The Barry Windsor-Smith Conan Archives Volume 1 HC, ladies and gentlemen. ‘’In 1970, Barry Windsor-Smith burst onto the comic-book scene with his dynamic portrayal of Robert E. Howard’s Conan the Barbarian, altering the course of the blue-eyed Cimmerian forever, and cementing himself as one of the greatest artists to touch pencil to paper. For an anime/comics fan is kind of difficult to live in Romania. All that I want to order, no matter if its an anime DVD, a comic book or some merchandise, I have to order on the internet, as there are no specialized shops in here. From time to time I find some god forsaken manga volume or some comic book somewhere in a library across the town. Like some months ago, when I found The Complete Guide of Manga by Janet Thompson at a delusionary …

█ Well, what are motions comics? Marvel says this: ‘’if the pages of Marvel Comics could move, what would they look like? Remaining true to the heritage of panel-by-panel graphic storytelling, boasting groundbreaking graphics, sensational soundscapes and, of course, the explosiveness of the Mighty Marvel Universe, here comes the all-new, all-awesome Marvel Motion!’’ So I guess motion comics are comics panels in motion. Here are two motion comics trailers, for Spider-Woman and Astonishing X-Men. If you like what you see, go buy them from http://marvel.com/motion_comics. I remember some old Namor …

For me, Conan comics, especially those from 70-80’s, are the epitemy of Conan tales. Savage primordial tales, scary black and white stories of ancient gods, abominable curses, forgotten cities and bloody battles. Some of them may be a little naive, some may have outdated artwork, but reading them give me the thrills that i never get when I read the actual Conan from Dark Horse. The artists and writers of 70’s and 80’s managed to bring out the best of the character and of the world that surrounded him. And …

“Hither came Conan, the Cimmerian, black-haired, sullen-eyed, sword in hand, a thief, a reaver, a slayer, with gigantic melancholies and gigantic mirth, to tread the jeweled thrones of the Earth under his sandalled feet.” Or simply called The Savage Sword of Conan volume one. This massive 544 pages trade paperback volume collects the Conan stories that appeared in the 70’s in the popular Savage Sword of Conan Magazine…
