Guin Saga episode 17

30 August 2009 by Andrei No Comment

generic-episode-17_0With the site down for more than one week and with restoring the posts to fit the new theme, I got behind with the reviews for Guin Saga. The anime reached episode 20 and the last I reviewed is episode 16. So lets jump straight into action. Hmm, there is no Guin in this episode. But there are crime plots and lots of evil schemes.

Archduke Vlad orders his captains to kill Aldo after the wedding ceremony takes place. Nice evil thinking, with Amnelis becoming Queen of Parros after the wedding. If Aldo gets killed, she would get the kingdom, thus the Mongaul will totally rule over Parros.

I like these court intrigues and plotting, although they could be more imaginative and complicated.

On the other side, the wizard Rorca and his master (well… Rorca serves a bunch of people by now) also plan something for the wedding. They want to fake Aldo’s death by putting him in a state of apparent death and save him from marriage. Hehe. Little schemers.

Al Deen wants to save Miail from marriage (ok marriage is a bad thing in this episode), suggesting that if they were to leave the castle they will have a lot of fun by being traveling minstrels. The bond between them grows to the extent that Aldeen refuses to kill him when Aldo Naris orders him to do so. To save the little prince, Al Deen proposes to kill archduke Vlad instead, though openning the path for Miail to be the ruler. And Miail is now totally dependant of Al Deen, asking his advice in any matter. They are such alike, Miail and Al Deen. Miail forced to marry at a young age, and Al Deen growing up in the shadow of his brother, with no hopes that he will ever be more than a servant. Would be so ironic if the two of them would end up ruling their kingdoms. But first, they will be traveling minstrels!

Aldo has his plans as well, as he seen him in the company of… him multiplied by 4. Somehow he managed to make 4 people look like him, and it is not because he has a passion for himself. The number one schemer of this anime has something BIG in the making. But their conversation is vague and not much is revealed about their plan.

Aaaaand the final evil plan for this episode involves Rorca and…  Astrias. Can someone kill this bug please? Ok. Rorca wants Astrias to infiltrate in the castle posing as a Black Knight and to try to kill Aldo Naris with a sword imbued in deadly poison. The wizard lets Astrias think he wants the death of Aldo. Driven by his hate against anyone that would touch his precious Amnelis, Astrias would do anything he is asked. I wonder what he will do when his fantasy will collapse, as he will find out that Amnelis does not love him, and killing Aldo will cause so much suffering to her. While trying to protect her, he will only manage to make her suffer. But he lives in his little imaginary world, driven by an illusion.

A very good plotted episode, with each camp trying to deal a deadly blow to the enemy. Plenty of schemes and assassination attempts, not so much action. But I guess Guin will appear soon, so do not despair. Reviews for episodes 18 and 19 coming soon. Stay on course.
