Was pretty much a sure fact that HBO had plans for a TV series based on the George R.R. Martin’s A Game of Thrones, since they announced some while ago the cast of the future TV show. But what was not known was this. When the heck they will start filming it? For about an year I heard rumors about a pilot, then nothing. But now, some official-confirmed facts have surfaced to our attention. First, Sean Bean is officially in. This is confirmed. He will play Ned Stark (read the books if you have no idea who Ned Stark is). Second, and this is the big one, HBO has given the green light for a pilot and 10 episodes! The shootings will start in June, In Belfast. The pilot has already been done, it was finished in November 2009. No idea yet about when it will premiere on HBO, but some rumors mentioned the spring of 2011. Faster, faster! Ah well, I shall read the books one more time until then.

There is also good to know that every season of this show will cover one book from A Song of Fire and Ice (from which A Games of Thrones is the first book). Mind this, A Song of Fire and Ice is not the regular fantasy with elves, dwarfs and orcs. Not that there is something wrong with it (LOTR<3), but is just different. The genre where A Song of Fire and Ice can be fit is the one called high fantasy. The books describe a medieval-like realm, with multiple royal houses involved in a savage struggle for power, where treason and treachery is as common as air. There are fantasy elements too, such as… ancient wolves and dragons, but in a small and controlled doze. Also, characters die a lot (good and bad alike), or they… well, loose a limb of two. If you haven’t read this amazing and epic fantasy, grab your wallet and buy all the books.

10 episodes seems like a little bit of a low number. The main problem however won’t be with the series but the author.

If there’s one thing wrong with it – is that everyone fucks around way too much, its mega annoying that there’s someone constantly being raped, threatened to be raped, mentioned past rapings, sleeps around, etc.

It is a fully-exposed world that George R.R. Martin is showing us in hos books. If u take the raping, the blood, the fights, the misery, etc… much of the feeling of the book disappears. His books are cruel, no point to deny that. But that’s from where the charm comes. No one is spared, everyone suffers.
