Robotech the live-action movie?

25 July 2009 by Andrei 2 Comments

█ I found this god forgotten article somewhere on the internet, and more precisely on vnuemedia.com. It doesn’t say much but it seems that Tobey Maguire, through his company Maguire Entertainment, has  acquired the rights to produce a Robotech movie. I even found a description for the movie, it says “A sprawling sci-fi epic, “Robotech” takes place at a time when Earth has developed giant robots from the technology on an alien spacecraft that crashed on a South Pacific isle. Mankind is forced to use the technology to fend off an alien invasion, with the fate of the human race ending up in the hands of two young pilots.”. And then I made some more digging and found out that Lawrence Kasdan has been hired to write the script. That’s awesome. Another writer, Tom Rob Smith looks like he’s onboard as well. But, as Tobey is doing the fourth Spider-Man now, it doesn’t look like the Robotech movie is on his priority list.

One thing I don’t like about movie-versions of manga/anime series is the propensity to drop the finer points of plot and storyline.

For a “good” cause too, to be easily digested and understood by the western audiences. Lets take those psychological moments out, and put in some explosions. At least they would say they had good special effects.
