Every spring brings us a new bread of anime series, and while not all raise up to the expectations of the avid anime fan, some manage to get our attention. Here are some of the anime series that aired this spring, each one with a small presentation. More about all these series after i watch some episodes. Keep them coming, Japan!
Valkyria Chronicles – The fight between the Federation and the Empire spreads in the neutral country of Gallia. The anime follows the adventures of a young girl soldier called Alicia Melchiott, who helps with the preparations against an imperial invasion in a city from Gallia. Its with tanks ;)
Sengoku Basara – an anime who reinvents the medieval Japan, with local heroes that have super powers and country lords that want to achieve total supremacy over Japan. One of the Lords is Oda Nobunaga and his most dangerous foe is called Date Masamune. Hmmm…
Basquash – a futuristic rendition of the basketball game, where the players are no longer humans but giant mechas. A boy named Dan tries to change all that. We could find some new ideas in this one, but i’m not a basketball fan :(
Guin Saga – the evil Mongaul empire invades the kingdom of Parro, killing its king and queen. But unknown to the aggressors, the princess and the prince manage to escape with the help of a mage. They get teleported in a strange magical forest where they meet a man with the face of a leopard. Looks very promising.
Tears to Tiara – another fantasy anime. In a world dominated by the Divine Empire, the priestess Riannon is abducted by an evil mage seeking to resurrect the demon Arawn. The ritual succeeds and Arawn is free to roam the land again. But the demon chooses not to harm her and he joins the battle against the Divine Empire. Sounds like a solid fantasy anime.
Dragon Ball Kai – the name says it all, and can be big. Looks like an upgraded version of the original Dragon Ball, with new special effects and stuff. It could be the spark that will bring back the legend of Goku. Or not.
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood – our beloved brothers are back. And man, IT WAS a long waiting. This new series tells us the story of Edward and Alphonse in the way it is in the FMA manga. Welcome in our homes again.
Konnichiwa Anne – the story of a small Canadian girl and the tragedies that she went through before being adopted. It is part of the World Masterpiece Theatre (a series of anime based on children literature), that includes anime like: A Dog of Flanders, Heidi, The Swiss Family Robinson and Red-Haired Anne, the last one being the predecesor of Konnichiwa Anne. Makes me wanna watch Heidi again. Really.
