Windows Live Writer as blogging tool

7 October 2009 by Andrei 2 Comments

One of the reasons I am writing this article is that there may be some bloggers and site owners out there that may find it useful and interesting. Plus, I discovered that I like writing about software.

First, I will say some words about the program that changed my blogging habits, and it sure made blogging more pleasant and fast in the same time. It is…. the Windows Live Writer, ladies and gentlemen. Since this little blue program appeared, I am enjoying writing a lot. The cool thing to it is that you can publish your posts from it straight to your blog (self hosted WP installation in my case). It has a preview tab, In which you can see how your posts are going to look in your blog. The thing with this little app is that it supports multiple blog accounts, so you can publish posts from it on as many blogs as you want. Just add as many blog accounts as you desire. It also has a Taskpane where you can see you recent published posts or drafts, and you can extract old posts from you blog and edit them in Live Writer. For those code aficionados, it has a Source tab, exactly like in WordPress, where you can play with the source of your post and make fine adjustments. Almost anything that you can do from your WP dashboard you can do it from the Live Writer as well. How about to tell you that it has a cool photo album feature which makes albums from any number of pics you want? And through the integrated Bing engine you can insert maps like the one bellow. Give it a try and maybe you will have a different blogging experience. I know It did the trick for me and I cannot stop using it. All my Animerated posts are published through Live Writer. This one included of course.

In the next post I will write about the theme I am using now on this site, which is called Arthemia Free for WP. Mine is highly customized but nothing stops you from doing the same.

I know, it’s pretty neat. Also lots of neato features too. Picture frame customization ftw.

Plus I forgot to mention it also supports plugins. Seineme, your site rocks.
